Taking Personal Responsibility For Your Life

After 25 years, the Oprah Winfrey show has come to an end. However, I am enjoying the Oprah Lifeclass Series on the OWN network series even more.

In this one hour program each weeknight, Oprah shares what she considers priceless life lessons as a result of doing her show.  Last night’s class reasonated with me and it was about taking personal responsbility. This is one of the chapters I write about in my book, No More Big Buts.

The class opened up with a quote which I wholeheartedly believe.

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”
― Alice Walker
Taking personal responsibility for your life is the beginning of personal power.  Don’t just wait for the proverbial knight in shining armour to come and rescue you, because it’s not going to happen.  You must take ownership for your life and all the good, bad and the ugly.

The next time you catch yourself feeling sorry for yourself, remember the above quote from Alice Walker.  Being responsible for your life is the best gift you can ever give yourself.

DSCN2109Today as I look out onto my backyard, it is defintely Winter.  It’s hard to believe that I sat out on this deck just a few short months ago.

And today, December 21st marks the longest day of the year — the winter solstice. It’s the beginning of the official winter season for those of us in North America.

I like to think of this time of year as an opportunity to rejuvenate and  make preparations for the coming Spring.

It can also be a time for your personal rebirth.  So get out and enjoy the beautiful winter weather, play in the snow and just enjoy the joyous time of the year.
